DENMARK

Denmark is one of the happiest countries in the world. It’s not hard to understand why, once you visit. For starters, Denmark is made up of 450 islands of the Baltic Sea that connect continental Europe and Scandinavia. It is surrounded by incredible white-sand beaches and a lush countryside. Denmark’s landscape is rich with history and architecture, full of Viking ruins, Renaissance castles, and medieval churches. One of the most important and incredible Renaissance castles in Northern Europe is Kronborg Castle, from 1574. It is known worldwide from Shakespeare’s Hamlet and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Danish design and architecture is world famous. The Copenhagen Opera House, Denmark’s National Aquarium, and the Royal Danish Playhouse are some of the most beautiful and unique modern designed buildings in Denmark.

Perhaps lesser known (but probably not for long) is Denmark’s fresh and inventive Nordic cuisine. Copenhagen has emerged as one of the world’s great foodie hotspots, with more Michelin stars than any other Scandinavian city. Its home to Noma, currently rated the ‘Best Restaurant in the World’, as well as 15 other Michelin rated restaurants.

Summertime in Denmark is chocked full of festivals. Roskilde Festival is one of the largest music festivals in Europe. Or you can explore Copenhagen’s Jazz Festival, Food Festival, and Blues Festivals. If want to take a break, Denmark is full of world-class museums. Overlooking the Sound of Sweden is the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art. Here you can relax, explore, and eat a tasty meal with incredible views.

But whether you want to wander the cobbled streets of Copenhagen, explore the castles of the countryside, or sit back and eat some delicious Smørrebrød, it doesn’t take long to understand why Denmark is one of the happiest places on the planet.
