Czech Republic

The stories, history and architecture are what make the Czech Republic so unexpectedly fascinating. Czech Republic’s history dates back to the early middle ages, when ruling families from around Europe settled here. Then came a 14th century boom when Charles IV was Holy Roman Emperor, followed by wars, a revolution, and finally a national awakening in 1993 when Czech Republic became an independent country.

Today it is a modern, vibrant country with eight centuries of history and architecture for you to explore. With over 2000 castles and chateaux (the highest number per square mile of any country), where do you start? (That’s where I can help!)

Strolling along through cobbled city streets and rolling, forested hills, you can visit Romanesque basilicas, Gothic cathedrals, Baroque palaces, Renaissance gardens, Art Nouveau hotels, cubist buildings, and functionalist villas. Don’t miss walking over Prague’s Charles Bridge at night as the Prague Castle lights up above it.

Another must-see: the fairy tale city of Cesky Krumlov where you can get lost in the gardens, alleyways and galleries of this gem of a medieval town.

Take a break and enjoy some Czech beer at its many pubs, outdoor cafes, and beer halls. Then, investigate Petrin Hill, and enjoy the incredible view overlooking the Prague Castle, the bridges, and the Old Town. To totally unwind, explore the town of Karlovy Vary for its hot springs and mineral spas.

Whether you want to catch an opera at the National Theater, enjoy a Czech wine tasting, or explore incredible architecture, you will find inspiration in the Czech Republic, just as Kafka and Mozart did many years before.
